I was initially hired via Toptal to refactor and clean up this Unity-based virtual human system, which became the foundation for all future HIA products. The system featured sophisticated 3D character animation with dynamic gesture systems, advanced lip-sync technology, and AI conversation capabilities through DialogFlow integration. Its first commercial application was a digital interviewer — AI interview avatars years before those went mainstream. HIA was simply early; the technology was later pivoted to healthcare, where it found its market. After proving my value in the initial cleanup, I became the core programmer, developing key systems including the natural body language generation, multiple text-to-speech integrations, and comprehensive speech recognition. This work established the technical foundation that later grew into the enterprise healthcare platform used by clients ranging from solo practices to WebMD.
